Why I switched to the Philips SatinShave Razor

Tips for keeping your skin safe from the sun
Today I wish to share with you my tips for keeping your skin safe from the sun. We are now officially into fall but that doesn’t mean the sun is any safer for you. Speaking from personal experience, I hope you will protect yourself from skin cancer.
Several years ago I had my FIRST skin cancer diagnosis. I am passionate about spreading the word to protect yourself. So here is my story and I hope it will help you.
As a kid growing up in the Chicago suburbs, winters were long and summers were savored. Summer meant no school, lots of freedom, sunshine, long pool days, eyes stinging from chlorine, vacations at the lake, weeks at girl scout camps, being outside as much as we could and we had ZERO SUNCSCREEN! It hadn’t been invented yet. I had so many BAD sunburns. Mine always were the kind that blistered. HUGE freckles are on my back from all that sun. We just put a tee shirt on over the burnt skin and continued to jump in the lake or pool. In high school coming back from spring break with a great tan was a badge of honor. Can you believe I even had a sun lamp from Sears that I used on my face! I know, horrible!
In my twenties I got into skin care in a major way. Women who took care of their skin looked so much better than those who didn’t. Sunscreen became a daily application for me. The one tip everyone shared about skin care was to wear sunscreen, so I did. Little did I know then, it was too late. The damage that was done in my early years would come back as basal cell carcinoma.
I check my skin ALL the time and go to the doctor immediately whenever I have a concern. Several things were burned and removed and it always came back ok. Until it didn’t. I got the call and I wasn’t shocked or even surprised. As a kid, I had white hair, blue eyes, fair skin, bad sunburns, I was the perfect candidate to get it. But even if you don’t fit those criteria you are still at risk.
Removal was not fun and it went pretty deep. It was on my face and I had six stitches. I have a scar but it blends in as another wrinkle so I am very very lucky. Since then I have had several more little cancers and go to the dermatologists religiously to check things out. My doctor feels this is all due to when I was a child. If something looks or feels different, borders changing, feels rough or scaly or I just don’t like how something looks, I get in asap!
Here are my tips to keeping your skin safer in the sun!
Wear protective clothing. Now there is clothing with protection such as this darling dress from cabana life SPF 50+
Make sunglasses and hats your new best friends!
Avoid outside activities between 10 AM and 4 PM
Use Sunscreen and use it correctly, 20 minutes before exposure and reapply reapply reapply. Sprays do not work for me as the wind carries much of the mist away. I slather it on and my skin loves it! On the daily I use Clinique sunblock, you can find it linked below. It’s the perfect base for makeup, don’t forget your hands and in between your fingers (especially if you use a lamp at the nail salon!)
Say NO to tanning beds. ZERO excuses here people. The facts are in and tanning beds CAUSE skin cancer. Instead try the self tanners I linked above. The mitt makes the difference!
And lastly get to know your skin. If anything looks or feels weird go in immediately, do not google or web MD it, go in and see your dermatologist.
With todays new sunscreens, self tanners and information I hope we will stop seeing a rise in skin cancer.

Feeling Fabulous With Dermal Filler And Secret RF

After 60, I felt I was looking a bit sad and worn out! The face staring back at me was not how I felt inside. I began saying “not too close” when pictures would be taken. Do you feel like that? At the same time I wanted to look like me and not a cartoon character. I was very nervous to try much. This is why I decided to investigate Turquoise Springs Medical Spa. This spa has the highest standards and Dr. Bill Murphy has years of needle experience, as pain management is his specialty! Dr. Murphy is a true angel with needles.
As with all BIG decisions, it was time to evaluate and talk this over with my husband. I will say right off, he didn’t think it was necessary. However, he knows me very well after almost 40 years of marriage, and he agreed to support whatever I wanted to do. I have been getting botox since my late 40’s and now even my daughters started Botox to prevent deep lines. Let’s just say that was not a big hit with Dad at first either either! But now he will say to me, I think you need a little Botox! The way I explained it to him was a house needs fixing and so do we! My decision was made to try the Secret RF facial and Dermal Filler (Voluma) in my lips!

The big day arrived. I was greeted like family and reassured about everything. Forms were filled out, questions were asked and it was time to begin. Dr. Murphy came in and we discussed everything that would happen, how I would feel and what to expect. Pricilla, Dr. Murphy’s nurse, loaded me up on the BEST NUMBING CREAM EVER! She was very gentle and very thorough. After about 30 minutes numbing I was ready for the secret rf facial procedure. This is brand new technology that uses fractional radio frequency to jumpstart collagen production. The secret rf smooths out minimal wrinkles and lightens up scars. The radio-fractional energy targets the deeper layers of skin while leaving the outer layer intact. Personally, I had very little discomfort with this procedure! (Again, thanks Pricilla!) A couple of ‘zaps’ stung but nothing too bad. This procedure took about 40 minutes.
Next was the dreaded lips. Dr. Murphy asked me what I was afraid of and we discussed all of my concerns. Did you know that by age 50 we have lost 50 percent of our lip volume? My lips were becoming harder and harder to see! Where are they? More joy was when I was constantly getting lipstick on my teeth and my lipstick was bleeding into the lip lines! NOT A GOOD LOOK! With all my questions answered I felt reassured and in good hands so we began! Once again Pricilla loaded my lips up with numbing cream. After I was good and numb we started. Dr. Murphy took his time, stopped and evaluated, did a little more until he was happy with the results. When I looked in the mirror I was thrilled. There was some swelling but that subsided in a few days! All I kept saying was WOW!!! My lips are back, cupids bow and all. Now I have those two cute lines back from my nose down to my lips. I feel so HAPPY!

The most asked question is “Did it hurt?” Honestly a few sticks did hurt, but only for a moment as the filler has a pain killer in it. The second most asked question is, “Did you bruise?” Yes, I did bruise but just a very little bit. That is to be expected. My after care instructions included no makeup for 48 hours and ice for swelling, no excessive exercising for 24 hours and lots of SUNSCREEN! When leaving I was given the most wonderful products to take care of my skin. I love love love them!
These products are heaven! I had never tried them before but they now are part of my daily skin care!

I could not believe how easy it was. I am so happy with my results. Two weeks later was check up time. After looking me over we decided that a small amount more of Voluma would perfect the result! My skin feels like butter and looks so luminous! The results are going to get even better in the coming months with collagen building over time. Because of these positive results, I am going to try the blood platelet secret rf next! I am a true believer in Secret RF because it works! There are some other procedures at the spa that I am considering too. All my fears are now gone. To be able to see immediate and lasting results has given me the courage and enthusiasm to embrace looking and feeling my best. Yes, I want to age with grace and for me that means accepting some scientific help.

Mother’s Day Beauty Gifts
Happy May! Are you celebrating your mom this Mother’s Day? If you are lucky enough to have your mom, I encourage you to make her feel as special and beautiful as possible. Friday’s Favorites
Friday’s Favorites are here! How excited are you that spring is ALMOST here too? In Texas at least we are seeing the trees blooming and the wildflowers are just starting to peek their heads out. We need to enjoy it because it is the shortest season we have before the heat of summer comes to stay until October! So let’s get on with what made my heart soar this week!

The color red is a powerful color in my book. Since this week we celebrated International Women’s Day, it felt right to have this color on to show how powerful we gal’s are when we stick together and support one another. Do you have a color that makes you feel powerful and confident?

Hands down, this is my favorite foundation. And let me tell you, I have tried LOTS of foundation. It gives my skin a radiance that I love and with SPF 22 I am protecting my skin as well as making it look great.
BARGAIN EARRINGS OF THE WEEK
Who doesn’t love a bargain? After a quick run to the mall, I stopped into HM and saw these. I was thrilled to find such a WOW earring for this price. Pretty sure I will be wearing them during Fiesta and all summer long. Also, Porter magazine is one of the few magazines left with quality content and photo’s. It never ceases to give me inspiration and education.

Finding The Perfect Vanity Mirror
Since becoming empty nesters, all the extra space in our house has sat empty too! But now I have an office/dressing room in one of the previous bedrooms. I have loved every minute making this space my own. I had been searching for the perfect vanity mirror for quite a while. I went to Soft Surroundings and found this beautiful one!
At this age, the closer I can get to the mirror the better, anyone else with me? This Tri Fold Demoiselle Mirror met all my requirements. I love that it is a streamlined interpretation of a french antique reflecting so much elegance in its beveled and etched glass. This mirror gives me all the feels of an antique mirror with all the convenience of a new one.
There are so many beautiful mirrors at Soft Surroundings, check them out. I have my eye on several others that will make my home feel elegant and new! I think mirrors make everything sparkle and shine, don’t you? Candlelight is magnified, flowers look twice as full, all my jewelry shines in its reflection and the fact that I can see putting on my eye makeup makes this a win win for me!
I, for one, love how this beautiful piece made such a feminine statement in my new favorite space in my home, my office/dressing room!
Yes, I am an empty nester but I am enjoying making old new again and loving reinterpreting the empty space into something I can use and enjoy.

Capri Travel Guide
Leaving Positano made me sad and excited too! After 4 days of no ferry’s running along the Almafi Coast due to weather and rough seas, we were finally in luck and hopped on one to take us to heaven on earth, Capri. We docked and left our luggage with the concierge that we had arranged to take up to our hotel for us. We then headed to buy tickets to the funicular for the inclined cable ride up to the beautiful city center of Capri. (arrange for your luggage to be taken up for you, it’s well worth it rather then dragging it up yourself! You can also take a taxi but we wanted to see all we could) The streets were very crowded but the beautiful high end shops (Armani, Chanel, Missoni, Moschino Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Brunelli Cucinelli, Dolce & Gabbana, Hermes, Alberta Ferretti, Gucci Dior, Fendi, and so many more) and gated gardens made this walk to our hotel delightful. From the moment we arrived at Hotel Flora, it was as if I was living in a dream! We took the elevator to our room where Stefan opened the door and showed us everything and he then opened the balcony door to show us the view! I started to cry! The beauty just overcame me.
After unpacking, we decided to stay by the pool and have lunch which was delicious. The service we received was top notch. Thank you to everyone at Hotel Flora, especially Stefan and Bruno! We then decided that we would wait until the last ferry left at 5 and then venture out to the street to explore. This was a brilliant move if I do say so myself, lol! We strolled and ate and shopped in peace and it was perfect.
This sculpture by Carole Feuerman is in the center of Capri overlooking the beautiful sea. Isn’t she lovely? I love the sculptor’s view on water as a symbol of life, how water cleanses and purifies. “Water touches all people, animals and things. Water connects one land to another. Water moistens and revives.” That is what Capri did for me, it revived me!
The days passed by and we saw so much! There were gorgeous flowers coming in for a wedding, shop owners who were as stylish as any fashion model regardless of age, little grottos with fresh flowers honoring Mary, so many different views, the best people watching and we enjoyed all the food too! But the best was yet to come. We decided to splurge and take a small boat out just for us! This is a day I will remember for the rest of my life.
I was hoping to be invited on board for a drink, but no luck!
We decided to explore Ana Capri too. The weather had turned a bit chilly but off we went. I’m so glad to have seen this quaint town with beautiful grounds and views too!
And just like that it was time to go! I cannot wait to go back to the Almafi Coast. The people, the views, the food and the shopping make this a dream vacation for all ages! (Wear flat and supportive shoes!!!!).
