Caftans & Cocktails
Caftans and Cocktails are a match made in heaven! This girl loves her caftans. When the invite says cocktails, I grab a caftan! I know I will be comfortable, happy and will not be pulling on my spanx wishing I could get home! No no no! I will be smiling and feeling like the belle of the ball!
This month I am hosting my Bunco Babes and I thought let’s do caftans and cocktails! Genius I thought! I usually do think at the beginning of my ideas that I am a genius and then I usually get a big KABOOM that puts me in my place! Just like how some of the gals were a bit hesitant. Okay more like NOT ON BOARD! I let them know that I have many caftans and anyone could borrow one to get in the festive spirit. I knew once I got them in these design masterpieces, they would know how comfortable and polished they would be. All the better to sip and laugh till the clock strikes 9 pm and we all rush home like Cinderella! Not kidding one single bit!
This beautiful and fun caftan by Carolina Herrera was an absolutely FIND! I was shopping with one of my best gals when I saw this on the rack at the outlet. I hurried to the fitting room to try on and what do you know, it fit. My girlfriend then snagged the last one and we both have an amazing piece that will be in our wardrobes for years to come. And the price!!! Well my mother always said don’t talk price but let me tell you I saved close to $1000!!!!! Get ready for twin pics, not kidding. We were giddy over our shopping luck and score.

I love the color and style of this Anna Cate Caftan. Her mission is to design ageless, year round statement pieces that will transition season to season, keeping your wardrobe current yet always classic. This is perfection.
So by now you are realizing that I have a real thing for Caftans. Some friends even call me The Caftan Queen and I don’t hate it. The ease of movement, how comfortable you are, how regal you look are all selling points of this style for me. I have been collecting caftans for years. I have a Halston in black (shhh don’t tell but I think it may have been a nightgown in the late 70’s early 80’s)! I have worn it to weddings and get tons of compliments. I have a vintage Missoni that I scored off of ebay that EVERYONE wants me to sell them! Get in line honey ’cause Mama treasures this one soooo much that I am never letting go!

Last month I was invited to a luncheon celebrating 20 years of San Antonio Women who LOVE to wear hat’s! The Holly Go-Lightly Society of San Antonio and Austin welcomes all women who love to wear hat’s. No membership or service required. This event was held at the gorgeous St. Anthony Hotel located in downtown San Antonio!

My Texas Road Trip With Chico’s
Summer is the perfect time for a Texas Road Trip and packing was so easy with pieces from Chico’s, who sponsored this post. Remember when you didn’t care so much about every little thing? This is when I feel wild and free (don’t laugh, it’s true)! The moral of this travel tale is to let you know that it’s easy to have a summer adventure that doesn’t cost you a down payment on a car! Just pack up a picnic basket and drive! It’s that time of year where the peaches from Fredricksburg are at their peak! July in Texas is where we pick a peach, drink peach wine, use peach lotions, light peach candles and make everything we can think of using these fresh peaches from Fredricksburg!!!! It’s drip on your chin fabulousness!

We all know accessories are the easiest way to update a look and keep you on trend without breaking the bank and now I am sharing my top 5 summer accessories that I am loving!
Number 1: PEARLS
This summer pearls are everywhere. They feel oh so fresh and feminine.

5 EASY & FAST OVER 50 MAKEUP TIPS
They say happy girls are the prettiest girl and I for one completely agree. Have you ever noticed at bridal showers and birthday parties for our kids that the younger gals are smiling ear to ear? I have been to so many events for my kid’s friends and I love how these young women present themselves. So I really have been watching and here are the 5 things I noticed that I need to do more!
- WHITEN MY TEETH
- WEAR BRIGHTER LIPSTICK
- BRONZER IS OUR FRIEND
- MASCARA AND LINER FOREVER
- BROW LOVE IS SO IMPORTANT
We all know that we smile more if we are confident in our smile. I feel so strongly about this that I got braces for the second time in my 50’s. That was a hard thing to do but I am so glad I did. With new techniques it is an affordable and practically invisible thing to do.
Whiten those teeth! We all have looked in the mirror and felt, sigh, old. But now more than ever you can whiten those teeth up to 5 shades and trust me when I say this more than even braces will give you confidence.
Don’t forget to brighten up your smile with lipstick. It can be scary to try a new shade but please do. If you hate it, swipe a cleansing cloth across and wipe it off. Bright lips and whiter teeth take years off your smile. I promise.
Yes, I have heard it too. Less makeup as we get older. PUMP THE BRAKES! Less does not mean NONE! In my personal opinion we all could use BRONZER year round. The days of fake sparkly horrible bronzer are OVER! The choices today are so easy and affordable to use. It will give you a HEALTHY glow and who doesn’t want that?
And now to your eyes. If eyes are the window to your soul, for heavens sake take 5 minutes to accentuate them. I am not talking theatre makeup either! I love trying new colors of liners lining the upper lid and inside lash line. For days when I want a little extra I also line the lower inside lash line too. Then mascara to finish off. When you swipe your blush on the apples of your cheeks gently add some to your eye lids as well. A teeny tiny bit of (and I do mean TEENY TINY) highlighter in the inside corner will brighten you up without over doing it.
The finishing touch (DO NOT SKIP THIS) is to fill in your brows. Let’s face it we fade a bit as we get older. I am not talking crazy brows here either but a light hand feathering your brows will frame your eyes and you will look well rested and great.

Pups, Pizza & Great Shopping At The Shops At La Cantera

The Shops of La Cantera is such a beautiful and unique shopping mall. All outdoor with the most gorgeous landscaping it feels more like an oasis than a mall. It is even pup friendly. I recently brought our rescue dog, GracieLoo, with me and had a wonderful day shopping, sipping, eating and just enjoying everything the day had in store for us at The Shops at La Cantera.
Our day started visiting Anthropologie . The spring styles are so fun and this girl loves when they have Anthro Days. I always love a deal, don’t you? After more shopping, GracieLoo needed a break and I needed something cold to drink. There are so many options available to sit and relax, people watch and have something cold to drink. Seriously, this mall is THE shopping destination.
The mall celebrated National Puppy Day with a spring trend fashion show featuring collections from Anthropologie, Free People, Athleta and more and the cutest puppy models who were all available for adoptions. Now in my book, that’s a win/win! There was even a Pup friendly brunch after! I love that this mall welcomes us and our pups!
I don’t know about you but when I shop hard I work up quite the appetite. So off to Grimaldi’s for some NY style pizza, salad (the mediterranean salad is my favorite!) and off course a glass of wine! Now this is the face of one happy girl. Finish your meal off with a slice of cheesecake and we are as done as a waffle on grandma’s griddle.
So come enjoy a beautiful day at The Shops at La Cantera and bring Fido with you. I think you will have just as much fun as I did.

Neutral Layers for Spring
Spring is here in Texas and that means one thing fashion wise, lots and lots of layers. It can be pretty chilly in the morning like 39 degrees and by mid afternoon we are up to the high 60s and 70s (last weekend we hit 80…in mid February!). I love the sophisticated look that neutral layers bring to these roller coaster days. You can look polished and feel comfortable at the same time. I HATE being cold. I joke all the time that the only thing that got thin since my move to Texas 22 years ago is my blood!
When I wear neutrals, as a blonde (ok going silver) I add punches of a darker color so I don’t wash myself completely out. The over the knee black boot and a black and neutral purse completed this look for me.
I also love a vest. Do you like vests? Let me tell you why I love to wear them. The truth is all the ways a vest can be styled. When a piece can be styled several ways that is a win for me. A vest is the perfect piece to wear over a coat, under a coat or just on their own. And that my friends makes my wardrobe go a lot further. Pieces like this are true wardrobe workhorses.
I know it’s pretty chilly for most of you right now, but if that ground hog is to be believed, Spring is just around the corner. So chins up buttercups and get ready to have your closet work harder for you in layers.

Ultimate Galentine’s Guide
Are you ready to celebrate Galentine’s with your best gal’s? If so here is the ultimate guide to pulling off a day or night your friend’s will really love!
Any holiday that involves friends, lot’s of pink & red, heart’s, chocolate and prosecco, count me IN! LOL! Today I’m sharing with you my ultimate Galentine’s Day Party that I helped plan along with one of my favorite bloggers, Kristel of Stylin Brunette
Is there any better way to celebrate all the gal’s that are there for the good times and the bad than the ultimate Galentine’s celebration? These gal’s are your tribe and this special friendship is to be celebrated. I for one love nothing more than this holiday in all it’s glorious girlyness! (Is that even a word? Well I declare it to be one now! LOL)
LOCATION
The first step is location location location! We headed downtown San Antonio at The Drury Plaza Riverwalk Hotel. This is an OLD building that was previously a bank! The lobby architecture is something to see. We spruced up our hotel room with all the usual girly suspects! This could easily be done in your home or apartment too!
TIME
Now that you have the place it’s time to plan the time! We did a gal’s sleepover but you could easily do a brunch which is extremely popular. But remember to do what works for you. Brunch in cute sweaters at home would be so adorable too, or how about a night of bunco fun?
DECORATIONS
Now it’s time to decorate! Do not underestimate how much decorations make a party! You can easily purchase items such as hearts, flowers and more at TARGET, HOMEGOODS or AMAZON. All our balloons were supplied by Balloons Boutique SA
COCKTAILS
Now this is where I love to have fun. Clink, fizz, sip! Whether it is a signature cocktail or simple Prosecco, a great drink is the perfect start to your party. I love mixing just a tad of Chambord liquor in the bottom of the champaign flute and then pour in the bubbles! I like to have a non alcohol drink too, make it fun link pink lemonade or a mix of Fresca and Cherry Juice, add garnishes and no one knows the difference.
FOOD
No one knows your squad better than you. My gal’s love a night of chocolate and sweets, so that is what we did. However, I know some gal’s that love a charcuterie board with all the meats, cheeses, olives and pate, and others who say let’s keep it simple and order in (Pizza anyone?)! You may even ask friends to bring a dish, desert or bottle! There are NO RULES, so I say do you girl!
So grab your girlfriends and have some fun for any occasion, not just galantine’s day. Sometimes the best times are for no reason at all!
